In their off hours, Imperial stormtroopers take their mud-caked boots to rest at a cabaret on B-bel and watch the spectacle of Loi'e's Follies. Inside the golden sphere, Hétis pleads with the star, Loi'e, as she prepares to go on stage. "I'm done with the sweet waitress act," she says. "I want to play a bigger part against the Empire!" After she sulks away, a hidden comlink chirps, with news from a rebel hideout that confirms Loi'e's real plan: to disperse small trackers among the gathered Imperial clientele.
-
Loi'e has grown tired of the double life. "I just want to move on," she tells her contact, Jon. But then...it's showtime. Loi'e and her crew gather together intoning a mantra: "To the ones we lost." Then the house lights dim and the music begins to play.
-
Loi'e dazzles, leaping to the center of the room in a billowing wave of sumptuous fabric that gives her the appearance of floating through the air. She twirls past captivated soldiers, nimbly placing the trackers behind shoulders and inside helmets, without detection. Then suddenly, she gasps having spotted an Imperial officer seated in a shadowy balcony.
-
Her mind flashes back to the Empire's incursion years before, when an officer and a KX droid brought fiery destruction to her home. Her concentration broken, Loi'e slips and loses her balance, as the memory washes over her, thoughts of her crying baby being snatched away.
-
Hétis rushes in to rescue the dancer, a pink swath of fabric unfurling at her back, and breaks Loi'e's fall just before impact. The crowd erupts in cheers mistaking it all for a part of the show. But backstage, Loi'e orders everyone into the escape tunnel as she prepares an encore solo.
-
Loi'e returns to the stage, a frantic swirl of fabrics masking her path to the balcony, where she levels a pointed weapon at the officer's throat. But this man is young, not the gaunt face of the Imperial who still haunts her memories. "Rebel scum!" the officer cries, swiftly turning the audience against the spy dancer.
-
A battle erupts inside the cabaret as the band plays on. While Loi'e deflects the officer's blaster fire with her weaponized vambraces, Hétis returns from the tunnels to assist her friend. Hétis grabs a blaster, leveling the weapon at the man attacking Loi'e. But in the last instant, the spy saves the man from harm. Together, Loi'e and her captive ascend the performance orb, with his dutiful KX droid following.
-
While Hétis and the droid fight below, Loi'e deftly dodges the officer, who has an eye patch obscuring his vision, in hand-to-hand combat. As the KX droid gets the upper hand, Jon arrives to end one conflict. But high above, Loi'e and the young officer continue their dance.
-
"Twenty years ago, the Empire raided our village led by a man wearing the same emblem as yours, holding the same cane," Loi'e tells him. "They destroyed everything, killed everyone...took my son." The officer is perplexed. "What's that to do with me?" he growls. "He would be your age..." she tells him. "What did the Empire do to you?"
-
Enraged, the officer defends the man he knows as his father and the Empire he serves. But Loi'e will not hear it. She disarms him, then, in a surprising move, embraces him in a hug. As reinforcements descend and the sun rises, she slips away, joining the other rebels as the cabaret burns. But Loi'e left behind one last tracker and a token of her love: a holo of her infant son. Back aboard his ship, the young officer looks at the joyful face of the baby and removes his cap to reveal traces of two severed horns.
