The base of the monument reads "Crystal City" written in Aurebesh, after the name of the town. This is a nod to Chaleydonia from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The stormtroopers travel in a vessel that resembles a K79-S80 Imperial Troop Transport seen in Star Wars Rebels, a vehicle based on a Kenner toy released in 1979. A similar vessel appears in The Mandalorian.

Steve Blum, voice of the "Commander," also played Zeb Orrelios on Star Wars Rebels (and in a cameo on The Mandalorian), as well as many other Star Wars characters.

LeAndre Thomas, writer/director/executive producer of "The Pit," is actually a longtime Lucasfilm employee and indie filmmaker. The idea for the short came time him in 2020, inspired by the civil unrest running through the US. He wrote a script and ultimately pitched it to Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president, who said "Let's do it."
