T0-B1's photoreceptors power up. The armless Professor Mitaka stands over him having just finished some upgrades to the mechanical boy.
-
Next, it's CO3's turn to be examined. T0-B1 searches for the droid, finding him inside an observation tower, but they get caught up playing Jedi, earning a stern admonishment from the professor.
-
The Professor and T0-B1 work on calculations in a lab where Mitaka hopes to grow plant life that will be sustained on their barren world. But the boy is eager to explore the galaxy. His mind often wanders to his hopes of becoming a Jedi Knight, even as Mitaka warns him of the dangers that lie beyond their peaceful planet.
-
T0-B1 is insistent. Something is calling to him, and Mitaka advises that he must find a kyber crystal if he is to become a Jedi. There's one hidden somewhere on their planet!
-
In the morning, he jumps on his speeder and heads out to explore, searching high and low under every rock. He finds no crystal, but Mitaka encourages him to try again, this time using the Force as his guide.
-
T0-B1's quest leads him back home to the forbidden basement in Mitaka's lab, where he finds a starfighter. He pretends to be a Jedi, but accidentally sends a signal that alerts an Inquisitor, a Force user working for the Empire to track remaining Jedi down.
-
Mitaka is enraged to discover T0-B1 playing on the ship. Through the Force, he pulls the door off the craft. The professor was a Jedi! To protect himself and T0-B1, he concealed the truth. However, he can feel a disturbance in the Force. The Inquisitor is coming. Mitaka gives T0-B1 pieces for a lightsaber and hides him behind a wall, his final attempt to protect the child droid and help him on his path to becoming a Jedi.
-
T0-B1 awakens to find the other droids, save for CO3, deactivated and torn apart, his home destroyed, and the professor dead and buried. Surveying the damage, T0-B1 vows to set aside his own aspirations to realize the professor's dream of bringing life back to the planet.
-
They rebuild Mitaka's other droids, put the lab back together, and work hard on his experiments. After a time, clouds reappear and life blooms anew on Mitaka's grave. Tears stream down T0-B1's face as rain begins to fall. As if in a dream, he hears his old friend's voice. "Use the Force," Mitaka urges.
-
With Mitaka's goal realized, T0-B1's thoughts turn back to his own hopes of becoming a Jedi. At last, he discovers his kyber crystal, hidden beneath his chest plate all along, and assembles the weapon of a Jedi. But while he and his friends are overjoyed, the resurgence of a Jedi once more draws the Inquisitor's wrath.
-
T0-B1 and the Inquisitor clash lightsabers. The boy is no match for his power. But through the Force, Mitaka calls to him once more. In a vision, he meets his master, made whole again through the Force. With his own lightsaber, Mitaka grants T0-B1 the rank of Jedi Knight.
-
Invigorated by his vision, T0-B1 leaps toward the Inquisitor and the two battle in the mud. Although T0-B1 loses an arm in the fight, with the help of his droid companion acting as a jet pack, the Inquisitor is defeated.
-
With nature restored to his world, the Jedi T0-B1 packs his starfighter with research and supplies and takes off for adventure, prepared to help restore other planets in need. "That's what Jedi are for," he says.
