After a dogfight with a pursuing bounty hunter, the Razor Crest suffers a fuel leak and must limp to the surface of the nearest planet.

The ship touches down on the sandy dunes of Tatooine in the Mos Eisley Spaceport, where hangar proprietor Peli Motto greets the Mandalorian. The two quickly negotiate a deal — Peli will make the needed repairs without the help of her droids while the Mandalorian hits the local cantina in search of work.

While the warrior is away, Peli discovers the Child toddling down the ramp of the Razor Crest. Meanwhile, inside the Mos Eisley cantina, the Mandalorian makes the acquaintance of Toro Calican. Desperate to prove himself and get into the Bounty Hunters Guild, Toro proposes the two mercenaries work together on a deadly job: capturing the assassin Fennec Shand.

The Mandalorian and Toro set off on a pair of speeder bikes, but soon encounter Tusken Raiders and must negotiate safe passage through crude sign language.

Tracking coordinates lead the hunters to the discovery of another bounty hunter's body being dragged through the sands by a dewback. A blinking tracking fob signifies that the real target is very close by.

From her vantage point, Fennec opens fire. The Mandalorian and Toro are forced into a standoff that lasts until nightfall. Using the Mandalorian as bait, Toro intuits the shooter's location and catches her offguard.

Slipping into a pair of binders, Fennec eyes the Mandalorian suspiciously. Down to one speeder bike, Toro stays to keep watch while the Mandalorian goes off in search of the roving dewback.

Now alone, Fennec tries to convince Toro to betray the Mandalorian. Instead, he turns the blaster on his bounty.

After discovering Toro's betrayal, the Mandalorian rides back to Mos Eisley on the dewback. He arrives at the hangar to find the Child looking distressed in Toro's arms and Peli held at blaster-point. But the Mandalorian outwits the inexperienced bounty hunter.

The Child, having landed safely on the ground during the skirmish, trundles toward the Mandalorian. The warrior pays his debt to Peli, and he and his diminutive charge get back into the Razor Crest.
