A regular at Aunt Z's tavern, Rolt is initially welcoming of the new presence of the First Order security forces protecting the Colossus. But as the number of soldiers escalates, individual freedoms are sacrificed and even an innocent walk around the platform can end in arrest.

Glem, a gravel-voiced Rodian scavenger working on the Colossus platform, will trade and barter for better shifts on the dock and choice debris scrounged from the depths of the surrounding waters. But when the First Order comes looking for a pirate spy, he shows no loyalty to Synara -- or anyone but himself.

Escape pods are small emergency craft designed to detach from a larger vessel or launch from a planetary surface as a means of escape from a disaster. As such, these pods feature a simplified design to make them easy to use. Some planets maintain a network of escape pods to flee from surface danger into the upper atmosphere. When at a high altitude, these pods then transmit distress signals. Some pods are used for interstellar travel, and are equipped with hyperdrives, but these are rare. Use of pods is usually restricted only to organic lifeforms -- not droids. As such these pods are also known as lifepods.

Travelers coming from and going to the Colossus must register with the transport droid stationed at the platform depot upon arrival and purchase passage on any outbound shuttles when they wish to depart. But as the First Order security forces crack down, citizens find it becomes more difficult to leave.

Thought to be the lone survivor of a deadly pirate raid, the scrappy scavenger Synara ends up on the Colossus after she's found hiding in a crate amid a Kowakian ape rampage. At first defensive toward her rescuer, Kaz, the mysterious Synara is actually harboring a secret identity of her own, acting as a spy for Kragan Gorr's pirate gang and a member of the crew that tried to lay waste to the Colossus during a Triple Dark Storm.

The notorious pirate Kragan Gorr has a reputation for leading ruthless attacks under the cover of environmental threats. In addition to his pirate gang and associates feeding him important tactical intelligence, Kragan is secretly in league with the First Order.
