During a mission briefing at Chopper Base, Ezra suddenly hears and sees Maul in the distance. The Padawan becomes alarmed, but no one else sees what he does. Eventually, Ezra passes out.
Later, Ezra again sees Maul at the base. He gives chase, catches up with Maul and readies a killing blow. Kanan reaches out with the Force to stop him -- he was hallucinating once again, and was about to kill a rebel pilot.
Kanan takes Ezra to the Bendu for guidance. Ezra tells him that after merging the holocrons, their visions were incomplete. Soon, Maul appears. He wants to take Ezra to finish what they started by merging the holocrons and gain clarity of the knowledge they seek.
They go to Dathomir, Maul’s home planet. Together, they will use Nightsister magic to find their final answers. The former Sith has gathered artifacts from his past, including the Darksaber, to aid in the ritual.
Maul concocts a potion, and they drink. Green light beams from their eyes and forms a sphere. “Of course! It ends where it began. A desert planet with twin suns!” Maul exclaims. “He’s alive… I can’t believe he’s alive!” Ezra says.
But the ritual has awoken the spirits of the Nightsisters. They swarm, looking to be compensated for use of their magic.
When Sabine and Ezra enter, the specters possess their bodies.
Under the influence of the Nightsister spirits, they attack Maul and Ezra. Maul leads the Padawan out of the cave, where the spirits cannot follow. But Ezra will not go with Maul to the desert planet. He will save his friends.
After Force-pulling Sabine out of the cave and driving the spirit from her, he reaches the Nightsister altar. Ezra offers himself as a host in exchange for Kanan; when they agree, Ezra uses his lightsaber and the Darksaber to strike the altar, vanquishing the spirits.
With everyone okay, Ezra tells Kanan what he saw -- Master Obi-Wan Kenobi is alive. But they will have to find this desert planet before Maul does. As they leave, Sabine notices the Darksaber hilt on the ground, and collects it.
