This episode was originally slotted to be the 16th episode of the season (production number 316), and was produced on that schedule, but was shuffled after completion in order to now land as the 18th episode of the season, thus keeping the two Darksaber episodes united.

Early in planning this episode, there was some conversation about doing the whole thing from a first-person perspective, but such an approach would end up being far more complicated than the production schedule would allow.

Wulff Yularen returns to Star Wars animation, voiced by Tom Kane who played him in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Yularen is based on an officer seen present in the conference room aboard the Death Star in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Trophies in Grand Admiral Thrawn’s collection include the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Hera’s kalikori, an ornate old lightsaber, pan pipes, a clone commander helmet, a bust of an Abednedo alien, and a pair of lizard statues that resemble the ysalamiri of legends storytelling.
