Ezra and Sato are on a mission...despite the Commander's misgivings about the boy. But during hyperspace travel, something impossible happens: their ship is pulled out of lightspeed by an unseen force. Sato calls to the Ghost in a panic. He ends his transmission uttering, “The Empire…”
-
Meanwhile on the Ghost, Hera shares Sato’s transmission with the rest of the crew. They're puzzled. “You can’t pull a ship out of hyperspace because you never know exactly where it is,” Captain Syndulla states.
-
Sabine has another idea. It’s not a tractor beam the Empire is using, but a gravity well. While in the Academy, cruisers with gravity wells were being tested with the capability to pull ships out of hyperspace.
-
“All right, everybody. Gear up,” Kanan orders. But not so fast. To Kanan’s dismay, Hera asks Spectre One to only take Rex to find the ship. Rex has military experience and the ability to impersonate a stormtrooper. Kanan agrees -- though he is still skeptical of Rex’s value to the group.
-
Commander Sato and Ezra have been captured by the Imperial ship. Stormtroopers escort them to an icy Imperial in black, Admiral Brom Titus. Sato angrily informs Titus that they are a member of the Corporate Alliance and their ship has been taken illegally.
-
The admiral is familiar with the rebels' activity and expected to find them. When Ezra is asked his name, he sarcastically replies, “Jabba the Hutt.” But the Imperial knows he is Ezra Bridger...and Kallus will be happy with his capture.
-
Back on the Ghost, Kanan and Rex argue over whether Rex will side with the Imperials due to his past. Kanan still thinks that clone troopers and stormtroopers are one in the same. Rex corrects him just as Zeb arrives with their disguises -- stormtrooper armor.
-
“Looks a little tight on you, old man,” Kanan quips. Hera breaks up their jabbing to lay out the game plan. Once they’re in and have secured Ezra and Sato, they are to signal her and Phoenix Squadron will get them out. But how are they getting in? Sabine arrives with another stolen Imperial Shuttle.
-
On board the ship, Rex and Kanan spot Sabine’s artwork -- graffiti of the two of them happily together in their second-hand armor. Kanan gripes that he doesn’t want to be on this mission, and once they find their people, they are to leave immediately. Rex, however, says that they must disable the weapon. If the Empire is able to take rebel ships out of hyperspace, their movement as a whole won’t last long.
-
Kanan agrees -- but they are on a rescue mission and that is what they should be focused on. They’re immediately shot into hyperspace and come face-to-face with the Interdictor: Admiral Titus' massive, gravity-well equipped ship.
-
Rex begins to spout Imperial jargon and eventually gets clearance. Kanan grumbles and calls it “protocol nonsense.” Back in the Clone Wars, Rex and Cody practically invented emergency protocols -- the codes are good, Rex assures Kanan.
-
The plan seemingly goes off without a hitch and they are instructed to proceed to hangar 11. The Imperials don’t suspect a thing -- or do they?
-
Titus calls Agent Kallus to inform him of his prized catch. Kallus instructs that Ezra be placed in a secure cell with triple guard. The Padawan should not be underestimated.
-
The rebels in stormtrooper guise board the Imperial ship. Kanan uses a Jedi mind trick on the trooper guarding their entrance and Rex is not impressed. “Maybe i’ll practice on you sometime,” the Jedi snaps back.
-
Meanwhile, stormtroopers move Ezra to his cell, but the Padawan has other ideas. His lightsaber held on the belt of a trooper, Ezra uses the Force to ignite his Jedi weapon, and quickly takes out his entire escort. Unfortunately, in his quick-thinking, he accidentally shoots two troopers accompanied by a droid -- his rescuers.
-
Thankfully, they're only stunned by Ezra's saber-blasts, and the group splits up. Chopper and Ezra will get to the ship’s reactor and destroy it, while Rex and Kanan bust out Sato. Kanan is not convinced but Rex argues back that they must protect the fleet. The Padawan complains about their incessant bickering.
-
With the rebels on the loose, the Empire locks down the detention block. Rex and Kanan battle stormtroopers, while Chopper and Ezra finally reach the reactor core for the gravity weapon. The Padawan acts as bait to distract the troopers while the astromech completes the mission.
-
Rex and Kanan make it to Commander Sato’s cell, but their exit is blocked by a squad of stormtroopers. Working together, Kanan pulls the troopers into the open with the Force and Rex blasts them. Clones and Jedi working together -- just like old times.
-
Ezra and Chopper find their way back to Sato’s ship, but Kanan and Rex can’t escape as easily. The old clone decides he'll hold off the Imperials and urges Kanan to go on without him. The Jedi protests, but the clone won't listen. He gives the rebels time to reach the ship, but is eventually captured and brought to Titus for questioning.
-
Admiral Titus scans Rex’s number and is surprised to learn he was once a hero. Where is his loyalty? “My loyalty was to the Republic -- not your Empire,” Rex states. If he gives up the rebels he will be granted immunity and reinstated at an Imperial Academy. Rex refuses, and Titus brings in an interrogation droid.
-
But hope for Rex isn’t lost. Kanan senses his danger and orders Ezra to get Sato out -- he has to get his “friend.” Ezra handles the remaining stormtrooper with impressive skill and Kanan comes to Rex’s rescue before Titus can eliminate him. “Nice to know you care!” Rex smiles.
-
Arm-in-arm, the two battle their way toward the hangar. Kanan tells Ezra to take off. There’s no time to get back to the ship, but there are always escape pods. At the same time, the Imperials prepare to fire the gravity wells.
-
The Padawan and Captain join the squadron and attempt to make the jump to lightspeed. They are caught again! Chopper grumbles for them to “wait for it,” and his sabotage comes to fruition. Chopper rigged their weapon to pull everything in toward the Interdictor -- including Imperial light cruisers. The grumpy astromech has once again saved the day.
-
Rex and Kanan share a moment of respect when the clone thanks the Jedi for saving his life. They show their appreciation with a regal salute after an intense but successful mission.
