On Tatooine, an injured Reva hobbles toward a small vendor. "I'm looking for a farmer named Owen," she says. Meanwhile, Darth Vader's ship continues its pursuit of the rebel vessel, with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Leia Organa onboard. As the ship suffers damage, Obi-Wan decides to draw Vader away. He asks Haja to deliver the princess home.

The Tatooine vendor informs Owen of Reva's arrival. Owen and his wife, Beru, prepare to protect their ward -- Luke Skywalker. "She'll come when the suns go down," Beru says. "Best we get positioned now."

Kenobi and Vader meet on a nearby world of rocky spires. They ignite their lightsabers, and the battle begins.

Reva reaches the Lars homestead. Owen and Beru open fire, and the wounded warrior struggles to keep their attack at bay. When she finally breaks through, Beru tells Luke to run; the boy heads into the desert with Reva close behind.

The former friends continue to duel. Finally, Obi-Wan delivers a precise strike that ends the fight. Kenobi stops, apologizing to Anakin -- but the Sith Lord rejects his sentiment. "You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker. I did," Vader says. "The same way I will destroy you." A tearful Obi-Wan looks on. "Then my friend is truly dead," he replies. The Jedi turns and leaves Vader to his fate once more.

Reva comes back to the Lars homestead, Luke in her arms. He lives. "I couldn't do it," she says, crying. "By showing mercy, you have given them peace," Obi-Wan, having returned to Tatooine, says of her fallen friends. "Who you become now, that is up to you."

Darth Vader contacts his master, Emperor Palpatine. The Emperor expresses displeasure with his apprentice's preoccupation. "Kenobi means nothing," Vader finally says.

On Alderaan, Leia joins her parents on a landing platform to welcome a visitor. Obi-Wan emerges from the newly arrived ship, returning Lola to her rightful owner and sharing a moment with the princess.

Obi-Wan returns to Tatooine, visiting Owen. The moisture farmer asks if he'd like to meet Luke. Obi-Wan walks to the boy, a T-16 skyhopper model in hand. "Hello there," he says.

Atop his eopie, Obi-Wan rides toward the valley. Only someone is waiting. "I was always here, Obi-Wan," Qui-Gon Jinn, Kenobi's old master, says. "You just were not ready to see."

As the Lars homestead prepares for attack, we see a perimeter droid with a red warning dome announcing the alert conditions. This droid is also seen in Star Wars: A New Hope when Luke Skywalker and C-3PO are topside at dusk, looking for a missing R2-D2. Its function as a perimeter droid -- and its name, 2X-K3PR -- were established in the Star Wars Customizable Card Game in 1995.

Obi-Wan’s humble living quarters are drawn from the original script of Star Wars: A New Hope, where Ben is described as living in a cave. By the time production started on Episode IV, the location was transplanted into a hut, but there are still blueprint drawings referring to his home as a "cave."

Placing Kenobi in a cave and not his hut at this time met several story needs. As established in DK Publishing's Star Wars: Complete Locations map, Obi-Wan’s hut was quite far from the Lars homestead, and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series needed him closer to keep an eye on the farm.

The T-16 skyhopper that Obi-Wan buys from Teeka is intended to be the same model that Luke Skywalker plays with in Star Wars: A New Hope. The original prop for the first film was a concept model built by Colin Cantwell during preproduction.

This episode actually marks the third time that Liam Neeson has reprised the role of Qui-Gon Jinn. He previously returned to the character on two occasions in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
