Brothers reunited! Darth Maul, the sinister Sith thought to have been destroyed so many years ago by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, was found alive by his brother, Savage Opress, and taken back to Mother Talzin on Dathomir. Though Darth Maul's memory has yet to be fully restored, his need for vengeance has awakened, more powerful than ever....
-
Unable to coax the raving, delusional Maul to leave the ship, Opress ventures by himself into the mist-shrouded landscape, which is littered with the debris of battle. Mother Talzin materializes from the mists and explains that the Nightsisters were destroyed by Count Dooku's droid forces. "But we will survive. We always have," she says.
-
Talzin lures Maul out of the ship by transfixing his attention on a glowing, magical orb. "Follow us, son of Dathomir!" she incants, leading Maul and Opress into the caverns where Savage was transformed into a monster. With a touch of her finger, Talzin sends Maul into a deep sleep. His trash-formed legs fall apart.
-
Talzin's magicks engulf Maul, wrapping him in tendrils of luminous green mist. Maul's emaciated body grows more muscled. Battlefield debris is transformed into a new set of legs. Talzin plucks dark clouds of madness from Maul's damaged mind. Maul writhes in pain, before arising reborn, son of Dathomir.
-
Maul recovers his wits. He recalls wallowing in darkness and madness for a long time. He feels the imbalance in the Force. He learns from Savage that the Clone Wars have begun. Savage returns Maul's broken lightsaber to him. He recalls, with burning hatred, Obi-Wan Kenobi. He longs for revenge.
-
Maul and Savage pilot their ship to the nearby world of Raydonia. Far from the center of Jedi affairs, Maul knows that the only way to attract the attention of the Jedi away from the war would be an act of true villainy: the slaughter of the innocent.
-
At the Jedi Temple, the grim Masters look upon a holographic transmission from Maul, demanding that Obi-Wan Kenobi face him, lest more innocents from Raydonia die. Mace fears it is a trap, but Obi-Wan is determined to confront Maul. Yoda surprisingly agrees with Kenobi, sensing that he will be aided along the way by a surprising ally.
-
Obi-Wan arrives on Raydonia, finding the settlement in ruins. From atop a smoldering building, Darth Maul calls out to the Jedi. "Jedi! I have been waiting for you... I am surprised you would have forgotten me so easily after I killed your Master and you left me for dead!"
-
Obi-Wan ignites his lightsaber. Savage leaps from the shadows to overwhelm Kenobi. Obi-Wan is taken by surprise and knocked unconscious by the massive warrior. Maul and his brother drag the unconscious Jedi aboard their starship.
-
As the Turtle Tanker lifts off, it is watched by Asajj Ventress, who has journeyed to Raydonia while tracking Opress and the million-credit bounty on his head. She sneaks aboard the starship before it leaves the planet.
-
Obi-Wan awakens in the hold of the freighter. Maul has been looking forward to killing Kenobi for years, and so he intends to relish his vengeance. But his exquisite moment is cut short by the cackles of Asajj Ventress, who lurks in the shadows of the hold. Opress realizes it is his former Master. Maul orders her destroyed. The brothers give chase.
-
Asajj slips past them to shake Kenobi awake. Obi-Wan is surprise to find Asajj here to rescue him. "When did you become the good guy?" he asks, wryly. Soon the two are side-by-side, fighting the dark warriors.
-
Obi-Wan reclaims his lightsaber from Maul. Maul tries to goad Kenobi to give into his anger, and unleash his fury at having witnessed his mentor slain. Obi-Wan unleashes a flurry of attacks onto Maul, but he draws back before pressing too far.
-
Kenobi and Ventress are overwhelmed by the raw power of Maul and Opress. They flee to the command module of the Turtle Tanker and seal the airlock, blasting away in an escape pod.
-
The Sith brothers are left behind, but Maul is not finished. He has bigger plans in the works. Savage warns that the Jedi will be hunting for them now. "I am counting on it," Maul responds.
