Count Dooku arrives on Dathomir at Mother Talzin's invitation to inquire about the new apprentice she has offered him. Dooku suggests he would welcome the Nightsisters to the Separatist cause, a notion Mother Talzin quickly dismisses. She is only helping Dooku because he once helped her -- she wishes never to see him again after delivering his new apprentice.

Inside her lair, Talzin asks Dooku if he has heard of Darth Maul. He acknowledges that Maul was slain by Obi-Wan Kenobi on Naboo. Talzin offers a warrior apprentice from his bloodline on the other side of Dathomir -- a prospect Dooku welcomes as securing a new personal assassin is essential.

After Dooku's ship lifts off from Dathomir, Asajj Ventress emerges from the shadows. Talzin instructs her to go to the other side of the planet and select a male warrior to act as Dooku's new apprentice -- one that the Nightsisters will control and unleash on the Sith Lord when the time is right.

Ventress rides a speeder to a village of Dathomir males on the other side of the planet. She is greeted by the village leader, Viscus, who orders his warriors to line up for selection. Savage Opress cautions his brother Ferel not to stand out. Ventress aggressively weeds out the weakest of the bunch and selects a group of five, including Feral and Savage.

The first of three tests to select a champion is staged in a round arena. The five Nightbrother warriors surround Ventress with weapons, each charging her separately. She handily deflects their assaults, killing one. Feral is knocked down, and when Savage goes to help him, Ventress slaps him down. This concludes the first test.

With four warriors remaining, the second test takes place in darkness. Ventress suggests that to battle the Force, one must see what cannot be seen. While the warriors gape into the darkness, Ventress kills two of them, leaving Savage and Feral. Savage is able to deflect a third attack, impressing Asajj. This ends the second challenge.

The third test begins with large columns of stone rising from the ground, adding a new dimension to the contest. Savage tells Feral they must work together as a team. The two are quickly separated, though, and Ventress attacks Feral with a Force choke. Savage breaks her grip with a surprise attack, claiming he will defend his brother to the death. Ventress sends Feral away.

Savage and Asajj fight in hand-to-hand combat. While each is able to land blows on the other, Asajj is clearly the master. She drops Savage and presses her boot to his throat. He surrenders and pledges to be her champion.

Ventress brings Savage before Mother Talzin. She is impressed by his strength and claims he will serve them well. She touches his forehead, knocking him unconscious.

Bound to an altar, Savage's body undergoes a monstrous transformation as the Nightsisters chant around him. When Talzin restores him to consciousness, he reflexively clutches Ventress's throat -- surprised, Asajj uses the Force, commanding him to release her.

For the final test, Feral is brought in. Ventress orders Savage to kill him. Ignoring his pleas of kinship, Savage lifts him by the throat and finishes him.

Talzin draws an "enchanted blade" from the ether for Savage, a weapon imbued with the Nightsisters' magic. She claims it is time for Dooku to meet his new apprentice.

Talzin and two Nightsisters disembark their starship on Serenno, where Dooku is expecting them. Talzin presents Savage to Dooku, who is impressed.

Once inside the palace, Dooku demands proof of Savage's abilities as a warrior. He will send the brute to the jungle planet of Devaron to overthrow a small Jedi Temple.

On Devaron, clones and battle droids fight for control of the Eedit Temple. Savage moves in from behind the Separatist forces, knocking down battle droids to reach the clones, who are no match for the monstrous Opress. Finishing them off, he targets two Jedi defenders, Master Halsey and his apprentice, Knox, who Savage handily defeats.

On Sorenno, Dooku vows to teach Savage the ways of the dark side. He claims they will be more powerful than Sidious, and will rule the galaxy together.
