Jod's alias of Crimson Jack is an old pirate that first appeared in the original Marvel run of Star Wars comics, starting with issue #7 published in October of 1977. A more modern version of Crimson Jack has appeared in recent comics, who bears no resemblance to Jod, indicating Jod has a habit of not being who he says he is.
