Amid challenging conditions at a workhouse, Daal escapes her life of toil for a moment to breathe in the fresh air. In the quiet of the outside, she dreams of escape.

Resolved to have an adventure, Daal and her friends Baython, Keena, and Quinn steal some speeder bikes and flee for Screecher's Reach, an otherwise three-day walk to a storied place that looms large in local legend.

Making camp at night, they consider the ghost stories they have heard tied to their destination, their lot at the workhouse, and Daal's desires to make a new life for herself out in the galaxy.

The four friends arrive at Screecher's Reach and venture into the cave, jagged rocks stabbing toward their path. "I don't want to see a ghost," Quinn decides too late as something rushes past him. The first wailing cry of the banshee within is enough to spook Baython, Keena, and Quinn, who fall back as Daal continues on alone, separated by falling rocks that block her escape.

Daal mutters words of strength. She believes the ghost is nothing more than a legend, even as a red lightsaber ignites before her eyes. "It's all in my mind," she whispers before the blade cuts into her flesh.

A crack in the rocks above shows Daal the bright light of day. She tries to climb toward it, seemingly using the Force to bring the massive rock toward her outstretched hand and to her aid.

A shower of rocks illuminates the situation and pins the witch beneath a massive boulder. Weakly, she shrieks and uses the Force to pull her weapon toward her hand, but Daal gets to the blade first. She alone must decide what to do next.

As her friends huddle together nearby, Daal emerges from the cave victorious and carrying the lightsaber hilt. She is stunned by her ordeal, but believes she did what she had to do to survive.

Her trial complete, Daal's necklace gives off a crimson glow and a mysterious voice beckons. Soon, a ship arrives, carrying the Sith Mother who sent her on her quest to Screecher's Reach.

“She promised me another life. A way out of here," Daal tells her friends, before taking the statuesque woman's hand. With a tearful look back, Daal says goodbye to her friends and leaves her old life behind.
