An adult zillo beast was captured and killed by the Republic in Season 2 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but Palpatine requested that his scientists clone the creature. This episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch picks up from that plot thread nearly 13 years later, showing a young, cloned zillo beast.

Much of this episode takes inspiration from space horror films, such as Ridley Scott's Alien (1979).

This episode is Nala Se's first appearance since her capture in Season 1's finale episode. Lama Su hasn't appeared since episode 14.

Doctor Hemlock is voiced by Jimmi Simpson, best known for his roles in Westworld, House of Cards, and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Doctor Karr is voiced by Keisha Castle-Hughes, who can be briefly spotted as Queen Apailana in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Helen Sadler returns to Star Wars: The Bad Batch voicing Doctor Scalder. This mysterious character first appeared in episode 16 but was not named at the time.
