After Padmé Amidala captured Nute Gunray on Rodia, Luminara Unduli and Ahsoka Tano transported the Separatist leader to Coruscant for trial. When Ahsoka threatened Gunray in a clumsy effort to get him to talk, Luminara upbraided the Padawan for her crude methods.

Asajj Ventress attacked the Jedi cruiser carrying the Jedi and Gunray, and maneuvered Luminara into a duel in the ship’s engine room – one the Jedi insisted on fighting without Ahsoka’s assistance. Ventress quickly tricked Luminara, scorching her with a blast of steam that temporarily blinded her in one eye.

Despite her injury, Luminara was confident that she could defeat Ventress, dismissing her fighting style as an amateurish copy of Count Dooku’s. But she soon found herself overwhelmed by the raw ferocity of Ventress’s attack – and was only saved by Ahsoka’s intervention.

During the second invasion of Geonosis, Luminara and her Padawan Barriss Offee joined Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka to plan the destruction of Poggle the Lesser’s massive weapons factory. While Anakin and Ahsoka’s relationship was frequently tempestuous, Barriss listened dutifully and respectfully to her master.

While Barriss and Ahsoka infiltrated the Geonosian droid factory, Luminara and Anakin created a diversion, battling Separatist super tanks on the surface. Despite their very different temperaments, the two Jedi made a capable team.

Forced to improvise, Barriss and Ahsoka blew up the foundry’s reactor, trapping themselves in the plant’s wreckage. Luminara accepted her Padawan’s sacrifice, but Anakin refused to assume that the apprentices were dead. After receiving a faint signal, Luminara and Anakin used the Force to clear the debris, saving their Padawans.

The Geonosis campaign succeeded, but Poggle the Lesser fled before he could be captured. Luminara and the clone trooper Buzz tracked the Geonosian leader to catacombs beneath the Progate Temple, where they were attacked and lost contact with their Republic allies.

Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi followed Luminara and discovered she’d been taken captive by Karina the Great, the secret Geonosian queen. Karina intended to infect Luminara with a worm that would take over her brain, giving the Geonosian queen an enslaved Jedi to use as a weapon. The Jedi foiled Karina’s plot, freeing Luminara.

To Luminara’s dismay, Barriss turned against the Order, arguing that the Jedi had become agents of evil. Luminara served the Republic at the Battle of Kashyyyk, where she was believed killed with the other Jedi when Supreme Chancellor Palpatine implemented Order 66.

Years after the Empire’s rise, the fugitive Jedi Kanan Jarrus was startled by an Imperial broadcast showing Luminara in Imperial custody. Thinking Luminara would make a better teacher for Ezra Bridger, Kanan plotted to free the Jedi Master from the prison known as the Spire.

Kanan and Ezra fought their way into the Spire and located Luminara’s cell. But the Jedi was long dead, executed by the Empire – which had used holographic footage and Luminara’s remains as a trap to lure fugitive Jedi to their doom.
