The lush forested world of Kashyyyk occupied an important position on the hyperspace lanes of the Mid Rim. One of the final battles of the Clone Wars saw Separatist invaders try to take the planet from a Republic force of clone troopers, Jedi and Wookiees.

The defense was led by Jedi Masters Luminara Unduli and Yoda, reflecting Kashyyyk’s strategic importance to the Republic. Yoda volunteered to join the defenders because of his strong relationships with several Wookiee leaders.

As the Separatist invaders came ashore near the city of Kachirho, the Wookiees fought bravely, their weapons and war vehicles reflecting their trademark mix of galactic technology and traditional artistry. Soon the beaches were littered with inert droids, burned-out vehicles and dead Wookiees and clones.

When Supreme Chancellor Palpatine issued Order 66, Unduli was captured and taken into custody by the clones she’d once commanded. But Yoda escaped with the assistance of Tarfful and Chewbacca.

Kashyyyk suffered under Imperial occupation, with the Empire enslaving Wookiees and using them as laborers in terrible conditions on planets such as Kessel, with its brutal spice mines.

Chewbacca, a veteran of the Battle of Kashyyyk, would win renown as a rebel hero and become a symbol of resistance and hope for his homeworld.
