The whale's skull that appears in the final scene is real; it was photographed by Punkrobot in Patagonia.

The logo on the hat of the Imperial officer is inspired by the coins used in Tierra del Fuego; Punkrobot placed a "P" in the center to make reference to Julius Popper, one of those responsible for the Selk'nam genocide.

One of the handprints on the rocks comes from Chris Peters, art director of "In the Stars."

The mouse droid makes a cameo for a specific reason: it was director Gabriel Osario's favorite droid as a child.

Though it appears so, "In the Stars" is not a stop-motion short. Models were created, however, and scanned, to allow for 3D animation that looked like stop-motion.
