On a blackened landscape, a young girl named Tichina looks to the sky as the light of a star pierces through the dark clouds. Dressed in rags and bits of armor, she collects the spores from an incandescent yellow mushroom.

Suddenly, a TIE fighter roars toward her; she removes her mask and stands her ground, arms stretched forward as if she could stop it mid-flight. But the TIE keeps coming...until finally, Tichina's older sister Koten tackles her away. "Let me go! I almost had it!" Tichina says. "No, sister. It almost had you!" Koten replies.

With her last drop of water and the mushroom spores, Tichina begins to paint, telling stories of the past. Stories of happier times with their mother, which ended with the arrival of the Empire. "They took our water. They poisoned our world," she says, finally telling of how their mother, gifted with abilities, stood against their oppressors — but ultimately fell to an AT-ST. "Mom became a star. Everybody did...except for us."

Koten has little patience for her sister's ruminations on the past, and spies the Imperial factory from a distance. She plans to sneak inside and steal more water, but this time Tichina demands to come. Koten will not allow it, and goes alone in her canoe.

She reaches one of the massive tanks of water and fills her canisters. But an alarm sounds. Using her binoculars, Koten sees that Tichina has secretly tagged along — and has been grabbed by stormtroopers! "Stupid child!" Koten says, readying her staff.

Koten reaches her sister, quickly taking out the troopers. Together, they race through the facility, helping each other along the way. "It wasn't just luck," Tichina says after defeating a guard. "It was Mom's strength!"

Suddenly, Tichnia refuses to leave. "Believe me, we can beat them," she tells her sister. "I'm sorry, Koten. I have to do this." Tichina turns around and runs back inside, raising a hand toward the gates. But nothing happens, and she's soon captured.

"This planet's resources belong to the Empire," the Imperial commander says to Tichina angrily. "Throw her." A trooper pushes Tichina over the edge of the platform, but Koten arrives in time to reach out — somehow drawing her sister back up and into her arms.

Furious, the commander unleashes an AT-ST to destroy the sisters. They stand together, however, arms stretched forward, and bring a water tank crashing down. The waves eliminate all in their path, and the sisters swim to safety.

They awaken on the shore, and the sun shines down brightly. As the clouds part, they sky fills with stars and hand prints glow along the rocks. One star shines brightest. "I knew she was there!" Tichina says of their mother. "You were right," Koten replies. "We will never be alone."
