Senator Padmé Amidala and Padawan Ahsoka Tano traveled in disguise to Raxus in hopes of establishing peaceful negotiations with the Confederacy. Padmé met with her old friend, Mina Bonteri, at her palatial estate on the Separatist capital world. Upon their arrival, Mina asked her son Lux to help carry her guests' luggage. Ahsoka refused his help, uncertain of what to make of the Separatist.
-
As the Senators discuss a potential peace, Ahsoka and Lux are left alone together. Spying her lightsaber, he asked if she was a Jedi. Before the war, he'd understood the Jedi to be good, but he was no longer certain. Ahsoka confessed she had never met a non-military Separatist before. Each seemed to find in the other someone they hadn't expected.
-
The two were able to find some common ground and learned to rethink their assumptions about the other side of the war. When Padmé and Ahsoka left Raxus, they truly hoped they began a movement in the Separatist parliament that would lead toward peace. But Mina Bonteri was murdered shortly thereafter, with the Republic blamed for her death. Lux took her place in the Separatist parliament.
-
Later, during a peace conference on the neutral world of Mandalore, Lux Bonteri made a dramatic entrance, publicly blaming the death of his mother on Count Dooku. Separatists security droids apprehended Lux, dragging him away to a hologram of Dooku who ordered his execution. Ahsoka Tano came to his rescue.
-
Lux deliberately caused his capture in order trace the origin point of Dooku's broadcast. He intends to pass this information to mercenaries who will exact his vengeance on Dooku. To keep Ahsoka from interfering with his plans, he stunned her and set course for the planet Carlac.
-
Ahsoka awakened on the frosty world of Carlac to see that Lux had struck up a deal with Death Watch. Ahsoka kept her Jedi affiliation concealed and pretended to be Lux's bethrothed, as Bonteri returned with his Death Watch allies to the mercenary camp.
-
Ahsoka tried to warn Lux that the mercenaries were murderous villains who could be trusted. To silence her objections -- while maintaining her cover story -- Lux planted a deep kiss on the young Padawan.
-
Before long, Lux saw the true face of the Death Watch when the Mandalorians brutally torched an innocent Ming Po village. Ahsoka could not stand idly by; she engaged the thugs in combat and covered her escape with Lux. On their ship bound of Coruscant, Lux boarded the vessel's escape pod and departed, determined to follow his own path even if it meant leaving Ahsoka behind.
-
Lux returned to his home planet Onderon to find it in the grips of conflict -- the world's allegiance to the Confederacy was made by an illegitimate king who seized the throne. Lux joined the growing resistance movement and reached out to the Jedi for assistance in securing the independence of his planet.
-
Anakin Skywalker took up the cause of the rebels, offering supplies and training to the insurgents in a covert manner to keep the Separatists from learning the Jedi were involved in Onderonian affairs. Lux was more of a politician and a warrior, and his physical shortcomings tested the patience of the more martial-minded revolutionaries like Saw Gerrera.
-
The Onderon rebellion brought Ahsoka Tano back into Lux's life, as she was the Jedi envoy that remained behind to monitor the progress of the rebel fight against the Separatist occupation. This was awkward for Ahsoka, who came to discover that Lux had feelings for a young rebel named Steela Gerrera, and the inexperienced Padawan had to grapple with her own confused emotions towards Lux.
-
Ultimately, the rebels succeeded in their challenge against the Separatists. Count Dooku withdrew his forces from Onderon when the prospect of a prolonged war proved unattractive. Sadly, this victory was not without price. Steela Gerrera died in the fighting, and Lux deeply mourned this loss. But it galvanized his conviction to follow his mother's pursuit of peace. He decided to bring Onderon back into the Republic.
