General Hux waited aboard the Finalizer while Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma raided Jakku in search of a clue to the location of the lost Jedi master Luke Skywalker. Hux had little patience for Ren’s mystical ways, but understood the value of Skywalker as a symbol of hope for the Resistance.
-
After the renegade stormtrooper FN-2187 helped Poe Dameron escape the Finalizer, an angry Ren argued with Hux about the effectiveness of the stormtrooper training overseen by the general and Phasma. Hux rebuffed Ren’s criticisms, reminding him that his personal interests were secondary to orders from the First Order’s Supreme Leader Snoke.
-
Hux returned with Ren and Phasma to Starkiller Base, hidden in the galaxy’s Unknown Regions, and contacted Snoke. Hux proposed using the base’s planet-killing superweapon against the New Republic capital of Hosnian Prime. Such a bold strike would force the Resistance to reveal its hidden base, allowing the First Order to destroy it.
-
Snoke agreed, and Hux addressed a rally of the First Order troops. He told them the last day of the Republic was at hand and heralded the end of a corrupt and illegitimate regime. Hux then gave the order to fire the Starkiller superweapon at Hosnian Prime.
-
When a Resistance reconnaissance ship spied on Starkiller Base, the First Order tracked it back to the Resistance’s hidden command post. Snoke, eager to prevent all chance of the Resistance finding Skywalker, ordered Hux to destroy the star system.
-
The Resistance attacked Starkiller Base with an infiltration team and flights of starfighters. Hux commanded the base’s defenses, seeking to hold off the attackers long enough to fire the superweapon.
-
Against all odds, the Resistance attack succeeded. The superweapon began to fail, dooming Starkiller Base to destruction. Snoke ordered Hux to leave the base and join him with Kylo Ren for the next phase of the First Order’s war.
-
Eager to escape Snoke’s wrath, Hux boarded the Finalizer and rushed to D’Qar with two other Star Destroyers, catching the Resistance before its evacuation was complete. But Hux’s old adversary Poe Dameron managed to buy the Resistance time to escape. A furious Snoke ordered the general to report to his throne room.
-
Hux hurried to the Supremacy, where he assured Snoke that the setback was merely temporary, and victory was at hand. The First Order had developed new technology allowing it to track the Resistance through hyperspace, and there would be no escape for Leia Organa’s insurgents.
-
Once the First Order task force caught up with the Resistance, Kylo Ren led a TIE fighter attack on Organa’s flagship, damaging it. When the Resistance ships accelerated, Hux counseled Ren to pull back – his fighters were out of range of the First Order’s covering fire. Hux assured Ren that it was only a matter of time before the Resistance ships ran out of fuel and were destroyed.
-
Alerted to the presence of intruders aboard the Supremacy, Hux arrived to find Rose Tico and the First Order turncoat Finn had been captured – and their associate, the thief DJ, had revealed the Resistance’s plan to slip away from its cruiser aboard small transports. Hux ordered his gunners to fire on the transports, while Phasma’s stormtroopers executed Finn and Rose.
-
The Resistance’s Vice Admiral Holdo jumped her cruiser to hyperspace, ripping the Supremacy in two and throwing the warship into chaos. Hux rushed to the throne room, where he found Snoke and his guards dead and Kylo Ren unconscious. Hux pondered killing Kylo, but his rival awakened before he could put this plan into action. Kylo choked Hux with the Force, compelling the general to acknowledge him as the new Supreme Leader.
-
Kylo and Hux flew to Crait aboard a command shuttle, from which they supervised the assault on the Resistance’s last hideout. Hux urged Kylo not to be distracted by the arrival of Luke Skywalker, but Kylo ignored him. To Hux’s disgust, the remnants of the Resistance escaped as Kylo pursued a foolish vendetta, denying the First Order a conclusive victory.
-
While the Resistance rebuilt in the shadows, Hux worked with commanders such as Pyre to eliminate rebellion against the First Order and claim key assets – whether strategically located planets or fuel stations – for its forces.
-
With Ren secure as Supreme Leader, Hux found himself increasingly sidelined. Though a member of Ren’s Supreme Council, he was criticized for his role in the creation of Starkiller Base and found himself reporting to Allegiant General Pryde.
-
Desperate to thwart Ren, Hux leaked intelligence to Resistance sympathizers. When Poe Dameron and Finn raided the Steadfast to rescue Chewbacca, Hux vowed to execute them personally – then turned his blaster on his own First Order soldiers. He told the astonished Resistance heroes that he didn’t care if they won so long as Kylo Ren lost.
-
Hux knew he’d have to make his story look good, so he had Finn shoot him before making his getaway. He then told Pryde that the prisoners had overwhelmed the guards and forced him to help them. But Pryde was not fooled. As his superior officer raised his blaster, Hux knew he’d made a fatal miscalculation.
