Princess Leia Organa was one of the greatest leaders of the Rebel Alliance, fearless on the battlefield and dedicated to ending the Empire’s tyranny. Daughter of Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker, sister of Luke Skywalker, and with a soft spot for scoundrels, Leia ranked among the galaxy’s great heroes. But life under the New Republic proved difficult for her. Sidelined by a new generation of political leaders, she struck out on her own to oppose the First Order as founder of the Resistance. These setbacks in her political career were accompanied by more personal losses, which she endured with her seemingly inexhaustible will.

A veteran commander, Ackbar led the defense of his homeworld, Mon Cala, during the Clone Wars and then masterminded the rebel attack on the second Death Star at the Battle of Endor. Ackbar realized the rebels had been drawn into a trap at Endor, but adjusted, with his fleet buying valuable time for the attack to succeed. After the Battle of Endor, Ackbar became a Grand Admiral in the New Republic, winning many victories including the pivotal Battle of Jakku. He retired to Mon Cala, but was coaxed back into service with the Resistance by Leia Organa.

An unconventional Resistance officer, Amilyn Holdo was one of Leia Organa’s oldest friends. She assumed command of the Resistance fleet after Leia was injured. As the peril to the Resistance grew, Holdo’s insistence on secrecy and her brusque manner led her into conflict with Poe Dameron. She sacrificed her life to save the Resistance transports during the desperate flight to Crait.

Leia Organa personally recruited Larma D’Acy to join the Resistance after years of service defending the Warlentta system. With the support of her wife, Wrobie Tyce, who adapted her acumen as a courier ship pilot to fight the First Order by Larma’s side, D'Acy has stepped into a broader strategic command position, personally advising General Organa and rolling up her sleeves for the hands-on work of getting the Ajan Kloss outpost fully operational.

Named for a legendary Mon Calamari commander from the early days of the Rebel Alliance, the Raddus served as Leia Organa’s mobile headquarters and flagship of the ragtag Resistance task force fleeing D’Qar. The MC85 Star Cruiser’s experimental deflector shields could withstand massive damage before failing. That innovation proved critical when Vice Admiral Holdo jumped the cruiser to hyperspace through a First Order task force. The Raddus was destroyed, but its sacrifice bought the Resistance time to escape to Crait.

A small, secretive private military force, the Resistance was founded by rebel hero Leia Organa to monitor the actions of the First Order. Most New Republic power brokers tolerate the Resistance while regarding Organa and her fighters as dead-enders with an unfortunate fixation on the past. Organa’s cash-strapped movement relies on credits, ships and equipment quietly funneled to it from the few senators who share her concerns. Resistance starfighters destroyed Starkiller Base, but the First Order’s retaliatory attack on D’Qar reduced its forces to a handful of brave freedom fighters.
