The series logo was originally designed by Barry “Baz” Gingell as proto-Rebel graffiti for the walls of Ferrix, a talon versus Sabine Wren’s swooping bird design.
The series’ dramatic opening, with Cassian Andor walking into Morlana One, was filmed on a pier that extends into the River Thames at Coryton Refinery, a defunct oil refinery in Essex, England, from 6 p.m. until 3 the next morning.
The first sequence shot for Andor Season 1 was the Morlana One brothel, the sequence which also opens the series.
The jukebox in the Morlana One brothel was inspired by the droid detector in the Mos Eisley cantina from 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope.
Creator and showrunner Tony Gilroy was inspired to use brick as a building material for Ferrix after walking through the historical London neighborhoods near the Globe Theater and the Tower of London. Once built, the set reminded actor Diego Luna of the John Wayne western town sets in Durango, Mexico, that he visited as a child.
Scenes set in the jungle village on Kenari were filmed at Black Park, a public park adjacent to Pinewood Studios, where similarly-wooded Mustafar and Ajan Kloss exteriors were filmed for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The noodle box seen in the Pre-Mor headquarters was modelled after the typical take-out food carry-out container but with an extra side and had the word “noodles” in both Aurebesh and Bazeese imprinted on it.
The Preox-Morlana headquarters building took design inspiration from The National Library of Belarus in Minsk.
This is the first time a cinematic Star Wars project has used the term “BBY.” Originally coined in publishing in the 1990s, BBY stands for “Before the Battle of Yavin,” as it is a record of time relative to the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. In other words, Andor starts five years before that movie.
There’s a sleeping luggabeast on Rix Road as B2EMO trundles about at pre-dawn, trying to avoid Corellian hounds.
The Aurebesh signage in front of the Caleen Salyard (where Bix Caleen and Timm Karlo work) promises “Ion Conversion Nodes and Components of All Variety."
The Pre-Mor ATC officer describes the antiquated ship on his sensor screen as “some old thing,” and hypothesizes it may be an Orlean star cab. This ship was introduced in a roleplaying game guide, Galaxy Guide 8: Scouts, in 1993 as “easily the oldest ship still in service."
Ships seen in Zorby’s Shiplot (where Pegla patrols with his hounds) include a classic Y-wing fighter, a Hyrotii D-85 freighter, a WTK-85A interstellar transport, a Lancer-class pursuit ship, the battered Breon Dayvan that Cassian borrowed, a KGZ-54 starcrane, and several others.
