Empire 30th Anniversary Artwork Collection Coming Soon

Next month, StarWarsShop kicks off a year-long celebration of The Empire Strikes Back's 30th anniversary with an exclusive new artist series featuring the work of some of today's most well-known Star Wars illustrators.

Every month starting in March, StarWarsShop will release one new limited edition Acme Archives print showcasing a memorable scene from The Empire Strikes Back in serial order -- that is, each new scene will be released in story order as it appeared in the film. What makes this serialized set unique, however, is that each of the 12 scenes will showcase the talents of an artist who brings his or her own individual style to the piece, making for a wonderfully diverse portfolio of artwork inspired by The Empire Strikes Back.

The first entry in the series, "The Taking of Echo Base by the Sith Lord Darth Vader" by Tom Hodges, opens the set with an important scene taking place near the beginning of Empire. A preliminary sketch of Hodges' artwork is shown below -- the finished full-color illustration will be revealed next month when the series launches on March 26.

Preliminary sketch only -- final illustration will be full-color

The artists involved with Empire's 30th Anniversary Collection will include:

  • Tom Hodges
  • Chris Trevas
  • Nathan Hamill
  • Cat Staggs
  • JAKe
  • Russell Walks
  • Katie Cook
  • Jamie Snell
  • Amy Beth Christensen
  • Michael Fleming
  • Alex Pardee
  • Paul Ballard

Each giclée on watercolor paper print will be extremely limited -- just 100 prints per artist -- which is sure to make them highly-desirable once the edition is sold out. What's more, each will be the same size (although some will be vertical and others horizontal) and fit in a folio that will be made available with the series launch. With each announcement for a new print, we'll let fans know what day they can expect to see the next in the series posted to StarWarsShop so you know when to check back for the latest entry.

StarWarsShop is very excited to offer this series of artwork inspired by The Empire Strikes Back for the film's 30th anniversary, and look forward to unveiling this fantastic series over the next 12 months!
