Collectors and fans alike have a chance to own one-of-a-kind Star Wars art pieces while giving to a good cause with The Empire Muggs Back. Lucasfilm asked artists, comic book creators, toy designers, and celebrity fans to get out their markers, paint brushes and glue guns and transform blank Mighty Muggs (donated by Hasbro) into custom Star Wars art which will be auctioned by The Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Starwars.com chats with artist Suckadelic about his process for turning a blank Hasbro Mighty Mugg into a unique piece of Star Wars art.
How did you choose your Star Wars character for your Mighty Mugg art piece?
I suck at painting so I wanted to do something more sculptural that you could also hang on the wall. Freezing things in carbonite is always a good bet for a remix and I like to use pink Mando motifs in a lot of my work. I got all serious for my Vader Project piece. This time I wanted to be a little more silly.
What materials did you use?
Magic Sculpt, busted Star Wars figures and Montana Spray Paint.
What were some of the challenges you faced while making your art piece?
Getting the gold paint to stick and getting clean lines. My own existential fear.
Why did you want to participate in The Empire Muggs Back art project?
I always jump at the chance to do official Star Wars projects. It offsets some of my more criminal activities.
The final Mighty Muggs art pieces will be on display at San Diego Comic-Con and on StarWars.com.
