The Falcon's quad guns have been shown in several different iterations over the years. For the blueprints, the artists referenced the guns used in the full size set, the original five-foot model from A New Hope, and the 32-inch model built for Empire, and even the original concept drawings by Joe Johnston.
Working with the cannons as built for the five-foot model as the basis, small changes were made to add details only seen on the full size set and in the other sources. The cannons were then scaled down to match the versions depicted on the 32-inch model. "Once we had gone through our calculations to determine an accurate and new scale dimension for the Falcon, the control seat and gun well could be addressed at an accurate size," says Reiff.
