Secrets Within: The Cockpit

For mapping the cockpit, Reiff and Trevas used the full-sized Empire Strikes Back set as the primary reference, but with some nods to the earlier set seen in A New Hope. For instance, the flashing light Luke points to as the ship blasts out of Mos Eisley is there as well as other items like the "lucky dice" that appear briefly over Chewie's head. The dice are positioned so that they have 1, 3, and 5 dots showing. When viewed together they read 1,1,3, 5+3 (8), 5 -- a very subtle 1138 reference with an extra 5.

"Every switch that gets used on screen is there and even though we didn't have the room to depict it all we went as far as to figure out which controls would be redundant and at the two additional stations behind the pilot and co-pilot seats," says Reiff.
