The working title for this episode was “The Blade Trials.”
In the earliest springboard stage, this story was originally coupled with the “Warhead” story to be within one episode, but was expanded to a point both needed to be their own episodes.
In the outline stage, Kanan would seek guidance from Bendu regarding training Sabine, but this was changed to Hera, which kept it in the “family.”
Among the features detailed on Sabine’s Mandalorian vambraces are paired blaster barrels (that fire yellow lasers), a repulsor, an energized rope (not unlike the Zygerrian slaver whips), a shield emitter (not seen in the episode) and dart launchers.
Sabine’s bunk has been updated with new art, including illustrations of a puffer pig, purgill, Ketsu, Lando, and Kallus and Zeb as best friends.
This episode has a rare example of 2D animation being used within a 3D animated show, with the opening prologue illustrating the ancient history of Tar Vizsla the Darksaber.
