At Chopper Base, Kanan shows Fenn Rau the Darksaber. Rau is amazed, and explains the history of the weapon: it was created by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi, and became key in uniting Mandalore.
If Sabine can wield the Darksaber, she can unite Mandalore again and greatly help the rebellion. She resists at first, but finally agrees to train.
They start with wooden swords, and Sabine struggles. She is impatient, and Kanan is unforgiving.
Ezra teaches Sabine the basic forms of lightsaber combat. Kanan feels Sabine is blocked, and not ready to train with the Darksaber.
As Sabine is frustrated, Rau brings a gift: Mandalorian weapons designed for combat with a Jedi. It proves successful against Ezra...
...less so against Kanan. Sabine storms off, calling the Jedi a "lousy teacher."
After talking with Hera, Kanan realizes he needs to let Sabine use the Darksaber -- it's the only way she'll commit to the weapon and face her demons.
Sabine apologizes to Kanan, and he does the same. The Jedi offers her the Darksaber, and training begins anew.
Kanan encourages Sabine to face her fears. Through combat, she reveals her guilt from making weapons for the Empire, seeing those weapons used against her people, and then being shut out by her family.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Sabine is unsure why her family would follow her. Fenn Rau comes forward and kneels, as do Ezra and Kanan, all pledging their loyalty. "This family," Kanan says, "will stand by you no matter what you choose."
