Last week, astronaut Mike Massimino was launched into space to rendezvous with the Hubble Space Telescope. On Tuesday, he made history as one of the the first men to Tweet from space, reaching out the the thousands of people who are following his extra-terrestrial adventures via Twitter. Prior to an extra-vehicular space walk as part of the Hubble rescue, he sent an email to Johnson Space Center, which then posted this message to his Twitter:

"From orbit: Launch was awesome!! I am feeling great, working hard, & enjoying the magnificent views, the adventure of a lifetime has begun!"

Massimino appeared in Robert Goddard: Mr. Rocket Science, one of the 94 companion documentaries featured in The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones DVD collection. Though the astronauts are necessarily allowed little in the way of personal amentities on their space flights, Massimino offered to take something from Lucasfilm up in the Shuttle with him. Since Goddard himself always wanted to go to space and never had the chance, Massimino brought along the Young Indy DVD featuring his interview as a way of honoring the pioneer of controlled, liquid-fueled rocketry.

Massimino and his six crew mates are on an 11-day mission that includes five spacewalks. Massimino has said he will do his best to post updates to Twitter during the challenging mission.
