Today marked the formal opening of Lucasfilm Animation Singapore, a digital animation studio designed to produce movies and television programs for global audiences. Star Wars fans will become increasingly familiar with the studio in the near future, as it has already begun production on the next series of Star Wars television adventures.

"We're very excited about the opening of a new studio," said George Lucas. "Our first series -- a TV adventure titled Clone Wars, based on the time between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith -- is already in active development and we hope to see it on the air in 2007."

Lucasfilm Animation Singapore will work hand-in-hand with the team at Lucasfilm Animation, based at Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, California. Gail Currey, Vice President and General Manager of Lucasfilm Animation also announced the hiring of some creative executives in the U.S.

Catherine Winder will serve as Excutive Producer. Her previous credits include Ice Age and the "Spawn" television series. Dave Filoni will serve as Supervising Director. He most recently directed the Nickelodeon animation series "Avatar: The Last Airbender." His television credits include "King of Hill," "The Oblongs," "Kim Possible," and "Lilo and Stitch." Henry Gilroy is the Head Writer/Story Editor, who has experience in the Star Wars expanded universe with his work on the Dark Horse adaptations of Episodes I and II. His credits include "The Tick," "Justice League Unlimited" and the Bionicle trilogy. Rob Coleman has moved from ILM to Lucasfilm Animation, serving as Animation and Development Director. Coleman served as animation director on the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

"These four amazing talents, combined with the leadership of ours Singapore studio GM Christian Kubsch, who joined our team in July, mean that our first series and our future projects will be both innovative and entertaining," said Currey.

The company has also announced several key hires that will be based at the Singapore studio, including Phillip Stamp as Director of Animation, Teo Chor Guan as Software Engineer, and Rossina Lim Yennyenn as Controller.

The animation studio will focus on more than just Star Wars in the coming years. It will develop new animated entertainment for television and features, employing the latest in digital animation technology.
