While in Mos Espa, the unwary Jar Jar Binks ran afoul of a Dug in the marketplace. Unfortunately for Jar Jar, this Dug was even more bad-tempered than most members of his species – he was Sebulba, the arrogant, vicious podracer pilot who was the reigning champion of the Outer Rim circuit.

Anakin Skywalker intervened and saved Jar Jar, warning Sebulba that the Gungan was an important outlander. Unimpressed, the Dug threatened Skywalker as well, warning him that the next time they raced would be the end of the young human slave.

Sebulba’s ruthless tactics and showmanship made him a favorite of podracing fans, who bet heavily on him before the Boonta Eve Classic. Sebulba prepared for the race by enjoining the ministrations of two comely Twi’lek masseuses.

Few podracing fans thought Skywalker had any chance of winning the Boonta Eve Classic – podracing demanded lightning-fast reflexes beyond human capabilities. But Sebulba took no chances, surreptitiously damaging the boy’s homemade podracer before the starting gun.

When the Boonta Eve Classic began, Sebulba immediately turned to the tactics that had made him a champion, using his podracer’s massive split-X engines to ram and shove aside smaller craft.

Sebulba plowed into the Gran racer Mawhonic, knocking him off the course and causing him to crash. It was only the beginning of his dirty dealings in the race.

The Dug used a hidden, illegal flamethrower to cook Clegg Holdfast’s engines, destroying his pod, and hurled a piece of debris into the engines of Mars Guo, causing him to crash in a massive fireball.

Anakin stalled at the start of the race, but made up ground and challenged Sebulba for the lead. The Dug rammed his podracer into Anakin, trying to force the boy off the course. But Anakin hung tough – and Sebulba’s engine couplings failed.

The Dug’s podracer flew apart, leaving Sebulba to skid across the sands in what was left of his craft. All he could do was curse as Anakin crossed the finish line.
