Draw Clone Wars Darth Maul
Ever wanted to draw Star Wars
characters and vehicles just like the professional comic book artists? Star Wars
illustrator Grant Gould explains with these easy-to-follow steps how to draw the new Darth Maul
on The Clone Wars
. Steps 1-5 are drawn lightly with pencil. No pen, no dark lines. Finished lines and details will come at the end.
YOU WILL NEED:
- Drawing pencil
- Colored pencils
- Colored pens
Drawing lightly with a pencil, create a simple framework. Note the zig-zag shape of his robotic legs, and the triangular, wide shape of his feet.
Using the framework as your guide, rough out his basic body shapes.
Tackle the upper body first by fleshing out his arms, chest and face. You should draw his horns at this point, and once you're happy with how everything's looking, go ahead and add lines to show where his gauntlets and neck piece are.
Now it's time to tackle Maul's legs and claw-like feet. Note the various shapes and start simple, then add in details as you go. Developing the correct silhouette and proportion should be your primary focus.
At this point, you should have a fairly detailed pencil drawing. Go in and add in some final details, such as his lightsaber blade and the markings on his gauntlets. If something looks wrong to you, feel free to erase your lines and try it again. Practice makes perfect!
Once you're happy with how everything looks, it's time to go in and add Maul's tattoo markings. When you're done, go over your lines with pen, marker, or heavier pencil lines.
Color your drawing, too, if you prefer. It's completely up to you!
