Once, the name
Obi-Wan Kenobi was recognized as a great warrior of the Jedi order, but after
the Empire came to power and wiped out the
Jedi Knights, Obi-Wan went into hiding. He fled to the desert planet of
Tatooine, where the locals knew him as Ben, and called him a "crazy old hermit."
Kenobi watched over Luke Skywalker, a young man who grew up on a nearby moisture farm. Luke was the son of Anakin Skywalker, a friend and pupil of Obi-Wan from years ago. When Luke was ready, Obi-Wan began to teach him the ways of the Force.
Long ago, during the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi helped Bail Organa and the planet Alderaan. In the time of the Rebellion, the senator of Alderaan, Princess Leia Organa, needed Obi-Wan's help again. She sent her droid, R2-D2, to deliver important information to the Rebellion. Luke Skywalker intercepted that droid, and together Luke and Obi-Wan continued Leia's mission.
While on their way to Alderaan, Luke and Obi-Wan found themselves aboard the Imperial battle station, the Death Star. Obi-Wan used the Force to sneak his way into the tractor beam control terminal, and shut off the beam that kept them trapped on the station.
During the escape from the Death Star, Obi-Wan confronted his former pupil, Darth Vader, now a Sith Lord and servant of the Emperor. The two faced off in a lightsaber duel, and Kenobi was killed by Vader's blade. His spirit lived on in the Force, though, and Kenobi's voice continued to speak to Luke.
