Ever wanted to draw Star Wars characters and vehicles just like the professional comic book artists? In this step-by-step series, Star Wars artists and illustrators show you how to draw some of the most beloved characters in the saga.
If Luke Skywalker owes anyone in the Star Wars saga a hearty thank you it's 2-1B (or Too-Onebee). The humanoid medical and surgeon droid who aided the Rebel Alliance, helped Luke Skywalker twice during the events surrounding the Battle of Hoth. He revived Luke from a state of shock after being outside in the cold too long, and affixed Luke with his cybernetic hand after he lost his hand from a duel with Darth Vader on Bespin.
Star Wars illustrator Sarah Wilkinson explains with these easy-to-follow steps on how to draw Medical Droid 2-1B.

Step One:
Start with the droid's head by making a fat, oval circle towards the top of your paper. Draw the lower half as well. His entire head should have a mushroom shape.

Step Two:
His chest is a large square with two half circles placed on either side. This is where his robot arms will go. Then add his hips, a slightly smaller square underneath the first one. Small rectangles indicate where his will be placed. Keep them wide and towards the outside of his body.

Step Three:
Next add his arms and legs. Starting at the half circles made in the previous step, add a few rectangles to form his upper arms. Add rounded joints where his elbows should be, then a couple more rectangles for his lower arms. 2-1B's a robot, so give him some really cool robotic hands! Add the rest of his legs, which look like accordions.

Step Four:
Divide his head horizontally to center his eyes. Draw his breathing apparatus and tube that connects into his chest. Be sure to include his chest plate and start sketching in his hydraulics that help move his arms!

Step Five:
2-1B's stomach is clear, so you can see his insides. Draw a funnel shape in between the chest plate and his hip area. I also added a "T" shape on his hip section and a couple screws on top of the "T." The more pieces you add to him, the more like a medical droid he will look!

Step Six:
Make straight lines horizontally across his belly area, from his chest plate to his hips. Also make straight lines horizontally across his legs to make them look like bendable tubes. Give him eye sockets so it looks like he's wearing sunglasses. Don't forget the medical badge that goes on his chest.

Step Seven:
You can always go further with your drawing by adding shading. It helps to look at objects and how they react to light bending around them, and apply this to similar shapes on 2-1B. Have fun and keep drawing!
