R2-D2 has been loaded with essential data and computer programs to keep the relief effort on Aleen continuing even after the Republic must depart to continue the war effort.

The 104th Battalion of clone troopers has been diverted from the battlefront on Qiilura to assist the disaster-stricken world of Aleen. Clone Commander Wolffe and troopers Sinker and Boost play important roles in helping the Aleena.

The planet Aleen conceals many secrets. Its surface is inhabited by the tiny Aleena, who are known to the galaxy at large. In its subsurface, however, dwell a variety of strange, alien cultures unknown to the exterior world.

King Manchucho welcomes the Republic relief effort to his planet with open arms. He pleads with the Republic newcomers to "make peace in the ground" -- evidence that he knows of the interior world, but does not fully comprehend it.

Orphne is a strange, reptilian nymph who lives inside the planet Aleen. She is wise and understands the balance that must be maintained between the surface and subsurface worlds on the planet. She speaks in riddles, and legend has it she will consume those who cannot solve her puzzles.

The Kindalo are large, tree-like beings that live in a glowing grove deep beneath the surface of Aleen. They serve as guardians of the underworld, blocking passage of any intruders from the surface.
