Unlike the spindly battle droids, whose humanoid builds allow them a degree of versatility, droidekas are designed with one sole function in mind: the complete annihilation of their targets. The bronzen-armored combat automata has a frightening build, insectile in its mix of curves and sharp angles. Slung at the end of heavy arms are immense twin blasters, which unleash destructive energy at a pounding pace. The destroyer droid can completely envelope itself in a globe of protective energy via its compact deflector shield generators, though at the expense of its mobility.
Although slow and awkward on its three-legged gait, the droideka can transform into a much speedier shape. By curling into itself, the droideka can turn into a disk-shaped form, which can roll on smooth surfaces at impressive speeds.
The standard battle droid simply cannot compare to the effectiveness of the droideka. While Jedi Knights and clone troopers will cut down and blast apart squads of battle droids with relative ease, the arrival of droidekas onto the battleground will give even seasoned warriors a reason to pause.
The Trade Federation uses droidekas aboard its starships for security, as well as on ground during combat operations.
When Count Dooku formed the Separatist Alliance by secretly bonding together a number of powerful corporate entities, he pooled their mechanical military forces into the largest droid army the galaxy had ever seen. Droidekas became a key battlefield asset in the Separatist arsenal.
The immense droid factories of the Geonosians churn out seemingly endless lines of combat droids for the highest bidder. The exacting Geonosian workers have perfected the manufacture of droidekas in their automated assembly lines.
