An admiral in the Republic's service, Yularen served gallantly in the Clone Wars, commanding a Jedi Cruiser in many campaigns against Separatist forces.
Yularen was assigned to serve with the Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, and the rigid officer and the impulsive Jedi made for an odd combination. Yularen admired Anakin's bravery and instincts in battle while deploring his recklessness and willingness to interpret orders creatively -- or ignore them altogether.
Yularen worked closely with Anakin Skywalker, as the good admiral commanded the Jedi cruiser Resolute. They would disagree on occasion -- Yularen's patience was tested by Anakin's foolhardy plans and improvised solutions when dealing with Separatist forces.
Admiral Yularen was a bridge officer aboard the starship Resolute. The Jedi cruiser was often the flagship of a larger battle group, such as during the campaign to destroy the Malevolence, or the engagements over Bothawui and Ryloth.
Years ago, Yularen faced off against the fearsome Admiral Trench during the Battle of Malastare Narrows. It was a costly battle. Though Trench was believed killed in the battle, Yularen never forgot the admiral's tactics, and recognized them again during the Clone Wars.
Yularen continued to advance up the ranks during the time of the Galactic Empire, and was stationed aboard the first Death Star. As such, he served under Governor Tarkin, head of the Death Star operation.
If Yularen thought Skywalker was reckless, he thought even worse of Ahsoka Tano. During the Ryloth engagement, Ahsoka's impetuous nature resulted in the Resolute being attacked by vulture droids, and Yularen being injured. Ahsoka repented for her actions, and Yularen gave the young Padawan a second chance.
