Serving alongside the aged Jedi Master Tera Sinube with distinction that drew the attention of the Jedi Council, M5-BZ was called upon to serve the Republic as part of D-Squad, an all-droid special missions unit led by the gruff Colonel Meebur Gascon. To carry out the vital assignment of capturing a Separatist encryption module, Beezee had its cranial memory module gutted to allow room for a mobile command center that would house Gascon.
Colonel Gascon was the no-nonsense commander of D-Squad's inaugural mission who led from within Beezee's head. Gascon's tendency to dismiss the droids as being inferior to organic operatives did not enamor him to those under his command.
A fellow member of D-Squad, R2-D2 was modified for this mission with enhanced booster rockets that enabled him to reach the heights of the cryo-chamber that contained the mission objective.
The sole non-astromech of the droids of D-Squad, WAC-47 was a smart-mouthed pit droid assigned to pilot the insertion and escape shuttle to the Separatist fleet.
A pink hued astromech droid, QT-KT was outfitted with a specialized magnetic coil vital for carrying out D-Squad's mission.
The last member of D-Squad was U9-C4, an astromech modified with a powerful laser cutter needed to break into the comm vault of a Separatist dreadnought.
