Card player, gambler, scoundrel... Lando Calrissian preferred to operate outside the jurisdiction of the Empire. As administrator of Cloud City, a Tibanna gas mining facility hovering in the atmosphere of the planet Bespin, Lando welcomes his old friend Han Solo along with Leia, Chewbacca, Artoo and Threepio after their harrowing escape from the Empire on Hoth. But not all was what it seemed -- Lando had in fact made a deal with Darth Vader to capture the unfortunate Captain Solo in exchange for the security of Cloud City and its people. It was a deal Calrissian was set up to lose.
With Solo captured, frozen in carbonite, and taken to the vile gangster Jabba the Hutt, Lando recognized the gravity of his betrayal and seized the initiative to redeem himself. After freeing Solo's friends and warning Cloud City's residents of the impending Imperial takeover, he fled with Leia and the others to the Rebel Alliance where he helped mount Han Solo's rescue from Jabba the Hutt. Later, as a general in the Alliance, Calrissian led a starfighter attack which resulted in the destruction of the Empire's second Death Star.
Lando Calrissian served as Baron Administrator of Cloud City. He was proud of the community he helped build among the clouds, and it was with great regret that he handed over control of Cloud City over to the Empire.
Han Solo and Lando Calrissian go way back. Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian in a heated game of sabacc. The two had some sort of falling out in their time on the galaxy's underworld, but Han is certain Lando must have forgotten all about whatever triggered it.
Long before Han Solo and Chewbacca made the Millennium Falcon legendary, Lando was at the helm of the "fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy." The ship saved his life on more than on occasion, and though he was sad to relinquish ownership of it to Solo, he knew it was in good hands.
To help General Lando Calrissian in the assault against the second Death Star, Nien Nunb filled the co-pilot seat of the Millennium Falcon. Nunb spoke his chattering Sullustan language, that Lando could translate.
Lando's legendary maneuver at the Battle of Taanab helped get him picked to lead the assault against the second Death Star. When the Emperor played the surprise hand of revealing the Death Star's deflector shield still being active, Lando didn't fold -- he bet it all pushing the Rebel fleet to close in with the Imperial starships.
