A tough, pragmatic Weequay, Hondo Ohnaka leads a notorious Outer Rim pirate gang from his headquarters on Florrum. A former colleague of Jango Fett and a former lover of Aurra Sing, Ohnaka won fame during the Clone Wars when he kidnapped Count Dooku, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker and tried to ransom all three for a big payout. Since that incident, he maintained a peculiar relationship with the Republic -- respecting the Jedi Knights, but not being above robbing them blind or betraying them. He was, after all, a pirate through-and-through.
Hondo's band of brigands consisted of wrinkly-skinned Weequays with a taste for spice, grog, and merriment. These pirates traveled in enormous well-armed saucer ships and swift rapier vessels.
Jiro was one of Hondo's pirate crew -- a group that would never be characterized as trusting. They could be counted on to follow their own greed, and this is how Hondo kept them under control.
After being resurrected by dark magic, Darth Maul embarked on a grand plan of conquest that hinged upon the recruitment of underworld forces to his command. Maul attempted to coerce a splinter group of Hondo's pirates to depose their charismatic leader.
Ohnaka's base of operations was on Florrum, where he ran a compound that included prison cells, a banquet hall, and a saloon, among other amenities.
Obi-Wan encountered the brigand Ohnaka several times, once as his prisoner on Florrum and again as the defender of a small village on Felucia against Hondo and his men. He later encountered Hondo while on the trail of the resurrected Darth Maul.
Count Dooku was disarmed and taken prisoner by Ohnaka and his men when the Sith Lord crash-landed his solar sailer on Vanqor. Hondo meant to collect a ransom -- from the Republic -- for Dooku's release.
Though there was an unstated mutual respect for one another, Anakin Skywalker and Hondo Ohnaka have shared more than one heated skirmish, most of which ended in a draw.
Aurra Sing, a former lover of Hondo's, sought his help on Florrum while on the run from Mace Windu, who wanted to detain her and her bounty hunter accomplices. Ohnaka refused her request, but claimed he would not hinder her attempt at escape -- or attack -- either.
Hondo's pirate gang would raid the spice farms of Felucia, until their banditry was thwarted by the Jedi and bounty hunter allies.
Hondo knew Jango Fett well, and upon meeting Boba Fett, offered the young man what advice he would imagine Jango would impart.
