Dalgos are sure-footed, reptilian quadrupeds capable of long-distance running, swift sprints, and the pulling and carrying of cargo. The long-snouted creature has a heat-radiating crest that runs its length, terminating in a wide, blade-like tail. Three large nostrils top the forward crest, blasting air from the creature's powerful lungs. A dalgo has sharp teeth, including two lower tusks that jut from its jaw. Inside its mouth is a forked tongue that helps in sniffing out signs of dangers wafting in the thick jungle air.
An ancient world, much of Onderon is covered by dense canopy jungle that has led to the rise of a diverse array of native creatures. The dangers of the untamed jungles led the Onderonian civilization to build immense walled cities for protection.
When Onderon sided with the Separatist Alliance as the result of a puppet king controlled by the Confederacy, an insurgency resulted, led by patriots who refused to recognize the legitimacy of the monarch. These rebels operated out of ruins outside the city walls, and relied on native beasts like the ruping for transport.
An idealist and tireless supporter of Onderonian independence, Steela Gerrera came to lead the Onderon rebels during the Clone Wars. She rode on dalgo-back when she met Jedi advisers in the jungle who offered the rebels assistance in reclaiming their world.
General Tandin was once loyal to the king, but came to see the errors of his ways. He threw his lot in with the rebels, bringing the forces of the royal army into the jungles. He rode into battle atop a dalgo.
The principal foe of the Onderon rebels on the ground were battle droids bolstered by armored AATs. These floating tanks had their weaknesses, though, and had difficulty tracking the fleet-footed dalgos in the thick jungle.
