Chewbacca's punch knocks the gantry officer into the stratosphere with this dynamic panel layout, and since the action plays out down a whole page, Han's blasting of the second officer (a headshot!) is given its own panel.
The original Marvel take has a much more fearsome looking Chewbacca. Remember, this is before anyone had ever seen Chewie, so who would have predicted he'd become a huggable favorite? The Japanese, of course, have a knack of cute-sifying just about any fierce creature. Also note that the condensed single panel layout capturing all the action forces Chaykin to do some awkward staging, and have Chewbacca dangerously cross Han's line-of-fire.
