Here it is: the climax of the entire saga, the final turning point where Darth Vader decides to renounce his dark ways and save his son. Marvel does what it can with only a single page dedicated to this action. The illustrations and layout are dramatic, and the text is crisp and powerful. But, with only a single page (and, keep in mind that the Emperor has only spent one previous panel electrocuting Luke), it does seem rather rushed.

The manga edition takes its time, lavishing eight pages of art onto Vader's fateful decision. Hiromoto's expressionist artwork includes jagged, frenzied lines to depict the Emperor's malevolence, and an entire two-page spread is devoted to Vader's visage as he contemplates his next move.
