Mawhonic had the mixed fortune of starting the Boonta Eve Classic in the front-row pole position. While this did mean he was the first out of the gate, it also meant that he was the first to contend with the unscrupulous Sebulba.
The cheating Dug repeatedly rammed Mawhonic's bright green racer, sending the three-eyed Gran crashing into the desert flats. His Podracer was destroyed.
From the Expanded Universe
Mawhonic piloted a Galactic Power Engineering GPE-3130 Podracer that had fallen into disrepair. Though a popular pilot, Mawhonic lacked the needed truguts to properly customize and modify his craft into a winner. He scrounged whatever parts he could from Watto's junkyard to add to his racer's performance. The conical engines were bracketed by a pair of secondary thrusters that gave him extra thrust and maneuverability. Neither of these helped him defend against Sebulba's dirty tricks, though.
Behind the Scenes
Mawhonic's Podracer, like the rest at the front of the starting grid, was built full-size. For the race and crash scenes, it was a computer-generated creation crafted by ILM.
