Gungan Grand Army - Type:
Catapult -

From the Movies
Contributing to age-old tensions between the land-dwelling Naboo and the Gungans is the martial nature of the amphibious species. Although the Naboo do maintain a security force made up of loyal volunteers, they do not have a standing military force the size of the Gungan Grand Army. When the Naboo and the Gungans joined forces to repel the Trade Federation invaders off their planet, the Grand Army employed their unique alien arsenal in the battle.Among the ground weapons used was this organically crafted Gungan catapult. Having the same "grown" look as the rest of Gungan technology, the catapult was pulled into battle by slow but reliable falumpaset beasts. When in place, the catapult hurled plasmic energy balls -- or "boomas" as the Gungans call them -- at the enemy.
From the Expanded Universe
Like most of the technology of Otoh Gunga, the catapult is grown. Tough hornweed is used in its design. A leather-like tensioner coil primes the missile-firing arm. Falumpasets also tow replacement ammunition into the battlefield in large battle wagons.Behind the Scenes
When developing the Gungan catapult, the early design sketches looked very similar to Earthly medieval catapult designs. As the design process progressed, the catapult became more and more alien. Keywords: Databank - Episode I
