Naboo Royal Cruiser![]()
![]() From the MoviesA majestic craft with smooth lines, an unblemished chromed surface, and a bold flying wing silhouette, the Naboo Royal Cruiser is unmistakable in its origins. This diplomatic transport was used by Padmé Amidala during her role as Senator of Naboo. On the day of the important Military Creation Act vote, the Naboo Royal Cruiser soared through the dawn mists of Coruscant one last time.Upon landing at its assigned pad, the craft exploded, killing seven of its passengers, including Cord?, Senator Amidala's handmaiden and decoy. The explosion was the work of a bounty hunter named Zam Wesell, who was ultimately carrying out the will of Nute Gunray, Viceroy of the Trade Federation. From the Expanded UniverseOrdinarily Naboo customs dictate that the chromium-finished vessels are reserved solely for the use of the elected monarch. Senator Padmé Amidala, however, was so beloved and respected by her constituents that the ruling Queen Jamillia allowed and encouraged the continuation of royal protocols in Padmé's office. The Naboo Royal Cruiser is just one example of such rare exceptions. Like the Royal Starship used by the Queen, the cruiser is a J-type vessel forged by the Theed Palace Space Vessel Engineering Corps. The shortcomings of the previous Nubian J-type 327 were addressed with improved shield generators and paired S-6 hyperdrive generators providing adequate backup for the superluminal drive. Adhering to Naboo traditions, the diplomatic barge is unarmed. It often travels under escort, however, and can function as a fighter carrier craft, transporting up to four N-1 starfighters fitted into recharge sockets along the leading edge of its wing. Behind the ScenesThe flying wing shape of the Naboo Royal Cruiser was inspired by the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber design. When developing its shape, Concept Design Supervisor Doug Chiang worked out his sketches digitally, applying a reflective texture to more properly convey the finished look of the craft. Keywords: Databank - Episode II Filed under: Vault, Starship
