The veteran pilot Red Leader provided a steadying influence on the young pilots of Red Squadron during the Battle of Yavin. His dreams of destroying the Death Star came to naught when his proton torpedo narrowly missed the battle station's exhaust port.

Luke Skywalker's best friend from Tatooine, Biggs Darklighter flew as Red 3 at the Battle of Yavin. He was gunned down by Darth Vader as Luke neared the end of his race down the Death Star trench.

Luke Skywalker spent his childhood on Tatooine dreaming of a glorious future as a pilot. At the Battle of Yavin, he flew as Red 5, using his nascent Force skills to guide the proton torpedo that destroyed the Death Star. Later, a more-experienced Luke led the defense of Hoth's Echo Base as Rogue Leader.

Flying as Red 6 at the Battle of Yavin, Porkins was an early Rebel casualty. Trying to regain control of his malfunctioning X-wing, he strayed into the sights of one of the Death Star's turbolasers.

During the Battle of Yavin, Gold Leader led a trio of Y-wings on the first run down the Death Star trench. But the veteran pilot never got a chance to fire his proton torpedos -- he and his wingmen were hunted down and destroyed by Darth Vader and his wingmen.

A no-nonsense veteran, Pops flew a Y-wing at Yavin as Gold 5, and counseled Gold Leader to stay on target as Imperial fighters closed in. Darth Vader gunned down Pops, who used his last breath to warn Red Squadron of the perils of the Death Star trench.

Zev flew as Rogue 2 on Hoth, and led the scout mission that rescued Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. Zev died defending Echo Base from the Imperial assault.

Flying as Red 2, Wedge Antilles had to bail out of the Death Star trench run after his X-wing malfunctioned. He flew as Rogue 3 at Hoth, taking down an Imperial walker, and led the starfighter attack on the second Death Star as the leader of a reconstituted Red Squadron.

Janson served as Wedge Antilles' gunner during the Battle of Hoth, successfully entangling the legs of a massive AT-AT and sending it crashing down into the snow.

Hobbie flew as Rogue 4 at the Battle of Hoth, surviving the battle and continuing to serve in the Alliance's starfighter ranks.

Grizz Frix flew alongside Wedge Antilles at the Battle of Endor, using Luke Skywalker's old callsign of Red 5. But the designation didn't prove lucky this time: Grizz died when his X-wing crashed into the superstructure of an Imperial Star Destroyer.

Ekelarc Yong served as Gray 3 at the Battle of Endor. TIE fighters blasted his Y-wing, sending the doomed fighter spinning out of control. But Yong made the most of his situation, crashing his fighter into the bridge of an Imperial Star Destroyer.
