From the Movies

Helping control the incredible amounts of credits, dataries, and other forms of currency flowing through the galaxy is the InterGalactic Banking Clan. This business entity allied itself with the growing Separatist movement in the galaxy, and the IBC Chairman San Hill personally committed his forces to the Confederacy of Independent Systems -- in a non-exclusive pact, of course. The IBC profited from both ends of the war, serving the Republic and the Separatists.

From the Expanded Universe

Headquartered on Muunilinst, the Banking Clan is an ancient institution whose ventures are controlled by key representatives of old banking families. The Clan has extended its financial services to many of the major commerce guilds in the galaxy, signing lucrative money-lending programs to such big spenders as the Trade Federation and the Techno Union.

The economic turbulence that accompanied the Separatist movement prior to the Clone Wars actually benefited the IBC, as it became the most prominent lending institution that many new independent worlds turned to for economic assistance.

Despite a façade of consumer-friendliness, the IBC maintains a sizable droid military in its euphemistically named "Collections and Securities Division." Its hoop-wheeled hailfire droids can make loan negotiations proceed in a chillingly expedient pace.

Behind the Scenes

Developed but not seen clearly in the finished movie were starships belonging to the Banking Clan. Like the vessels of the Techno Union, the Banking Clan ships were very retro in their rocket ship design.
