From the Movies

The Corporate Alliance is the negotiating body for many of the galaxy's largest commercial firms. The huge business concern held considerable influence in the waning days of the Republic, being represented in the Senate by its Magistrate, Passel Argente.

As the Clone Wars dawned with the rise of a Separatist movement led by Count Dooku, the Corporate Alliance sided with the Separatists with the promise of limitless profit under a new government. Argente committed his corporate military forces and battle droid armies to the cause.

From the Expanded Universe

The Corporate Alliance is charged with regulating sales and distribution of countless corporations in the galaxy. Its higher executives were constantly frustrated with the cumbersome bureaucracies of the Republic, which kept the Alliance from maximizing its profits.

To protect its assets, the Corporate Alliance maintained a military of combat automata, including a fearsome brand of soulless tank droid capable of storming enemy compounds in an instant. The Alliance employed such tactics against thieves, negligent members, or any such entity that interfered with its bottom line -- as long as the Alliance could get away with it.

Behind the Scenes

Early in the development of Episode II, the character of Zam Wesell started off as a "Corporate Alliance Trooper." The Art Department and animatics artists developed a distinct Corporate Alliance Tank Droid that did not survive the final cut of Episode II.
