From the Movies

Located on the streets of Coco Town, a dilapidated industrial area on the city-planet of Coruscant, is a quaint and outdated eatery known simply as Dex's Diner. Here, hard-working laborers come for a quick and home-style meal or a cup of freshly brewed Jawa juice or ardees, and idly chatter about local politics, sports, or current events.

Serving the patrons were a pair of regular waitresses, the whirring and wheeled WA-7, and her organic and freckled partner, Hermione Bagwa. The food comes courtesy of cook and proprietor, Dexter Jettster, a hulking alien with a multitude of past careers and life experiences.

When Obi-Wan Kenobi's investigation of a botched assassination attempt on Senator Padmé Amidala came to a dead end, he visited Dex's Diner and received crucial pieces of information from his well-traveled friend.

From the Expanded Universe

Once a small café owned by Didi and Astri Oddo, the place was purchased and renovated by Dexter Jettster in a nostalgic style that was once common in the golden age of the Republic. Despite Dex's greasy demeanor and the working-class surroundings, the diner is clean, well lit, and serves a solid if no-frills selection of food that provides a welcome retreat from some of the fashionably bizarre meals found in the upper levels of Coruscant.

The most popular entrée are sliders, small square concoctions of medium-density foodboard and garnishes. As a service, the diner provides mild antidote supplements to fend off any gastrointestinal distress. Some whisper that Dex actually salts his meals with addictive additives to ensure repeat business, but this is merely a rumor.

Behind the Scenes

Dexter's Diner combines the Star Wars universe with the greasy-spoon aesthetics of American eateries from the 1950s. Its interior has many features that resemble the diner seen in American Graffiti. It is one of the few sets to have been mostly constructed practically -- its digital additions came in the form of street traffic outside its windows, and many of its patrons.

Several of the computer generated character models used for Episode I Podracer pilots were modified and reused for new diner patrons. These included a Dug named Seboca (based off Sebulba), an Aleen named Bogg Tyrell (originally Ratts Tyerell), a Nuknog named Slyther Bushforb (who started life as Ark "Bumpy" Roose), and outside, a Triffian named Ony Bobbisia (based on Ebe Endocott). A character based on Mars Guo (named NJ Opuh) was planned, but eventually did not make the final cut.
